What the guide covers
The study guide describes 42 of the 43 tasks in the six domains of the Test Content Outline, 3rd edition. Task F.4 is listed but not described: it could not be verified from a readable source, so the guide points you to the official outline for it.
- Domain A: Data Collection and Graphing (tasks A.1 to A.8)
- Domain B: Behavior Assessment (tasks B.1 to B.3)
- Domain C: Behavior Acquisition (tasks C.1 to C.11)
- Domain D: Behavior Reduction (tasks D.1 to D.7)
- Domain E: Documentation and Reporting (tasks E.1 to E.4)
- Domain F: Ethics (tasks F.1 to F.10); F.4 is listed but not described
Each of the 42 described tasks gives a definition, a scenario and a common mistake.
One full guide section: D.3 Differential reinforcement (e.g., DRA, DRO, DRI, FCT)
Differential reinforcement reinforces some responses and withholds reinforcement for others. DRA reinforces an alternative behavior. DRI reinforces a behavior that cannot happen at the same time as the problem behavior. DRO reinforces the absence of the problem behavior for a set interval. FCT (functional communication training) is a DRA in which the alternative is a communication response that serves the same function.
Scenario: A client hits to escape tasks. The plan teaches the client to hand over a 'break' card, which earns a short break, and the RBT does not give a break after hitting.
Common mistake: Reinforcing the alternative behavior less strongly or less quickly than the problem behavior used to be reinforced, so the old behavior wins.
5 flashcards
Frequency: A count of how many times a behavior occurs.
Duration: How long a single occurrence of a behavior lasts, from start to end.
Interresponse time (IRT): The time between the end of one response and the start of the next.
Event recording: Tallying each time a behavior happens, usually with a counter or tally sheet.
Satiation: A temporary drop in the value of a reinforcer after having had a lot of it.
